Citizenship at Home

For the first lesson the elementary students discuss with their parents their responsibilities at home and how this contributes to the family as a whole. Both elementary and high school students draw pictures at home then use water colors at school to illustrate one responsibility they have at home. Students "meet" for the first time before the assignment and then again to share their drawings with each other via Skype.

Citizenship at School

For this second lesson 2nd graders work in groups of 3 and 4 and each group is mentored by 2 high school students via Skype. Each group examines how they can be good citizens at school by selecting one area of the school to focus on. The school areas to select from are the hallway, classroom, cafeteria, gym, school bus and playground.  Students then choose from writing a story, creating and performing a skit to video, or creating posters to encourage others to be good citizens in that area of the school.

The high school students create an example for each of the project choices and share these during the intial Skype meeting.

Citizenship Around the World

For this final lesson, the 2nd graders will be lead by the high school students to brainstorm ways they can help in the world. Students as a class select one to complete.
